The issue is that it feels like the writers came up with their own story and then lazily slapped a Lord of the Rings skin on it for marketing purposes. In fact, at times it's quite interesting.

Story - It's not that I think the game's story is bad, per se. To make matters worse, the game is inexplicably missing any sort of difficulty setting, and if you spend any time exploring you'll quickly end up over-leveled and overpowered. Anyone with any experience with third-person hack-and-slashes shouldn't have any issue mastering the combat system. Unfortunately all of this just has me thinking about how great of a game it could've been, because it's held back by the following issues:ĭifficulty - The game is, to put it mildly, piss easy. The game really does have a lot to love: the nemesis system is awesome and unique, combat generally feels fluid, and the world, though somewhat small, has a lot to uncover in it. You ever play a game that feels like it was so close to being great, but ultimately just feels like a letdown due to a few key shortcomings? Well that's how I feel after finally getting around to playing Shadow of Mordor.
